Independent Prescribing Pathfinder

Independent Prescribing Pathfinder Service

What is it?

The Independent Prescriber Pathfinder Service is a national pilot program designed to integrate prescribing pharmacists into community pharmacies across England. Each Integrated Care Board (ICB) is supporting a select number of pathfinder pharmacies to develop and refine independent prescribing services. The goal is to gather insights that will shape a future nationwide rollout, ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centered care.

Novel Service

  • Better access to care – Patients with minor conditions can get treated faster at their local pharmacy, reducing pressure on GP practices.

  • Faster prescriptions – Quick, appropriate prescribing for eligible conditions.

  • More efficient healthcare – Pharmacists work to their full potential, improving system-wide productivity.

How does it work?

Our Pathfinder Service offers prescribing services for minor acute conditions, based on the pharmacist’s expertise and following national and local clinical guidelines. This ensures safe, consistent, and high-quality care for patients.

You can book a consultation with our prescribing pharmacist who will assess your condition. If appropriate, an NHS prescription can be produced for certain conditions.
